TEXAS PARALEGAL DAY 2012 – UPDATED!

Posted by Texas Paralegal Division Blogger at blog@txpd.org on October 7, 2012

UPDATE – See below for additional information on Paralegal Day Celebrations around the state.

As many of us know, Texas Paralegals have the privilege of celebrating their very own day every year on October 23rd.   Paralegal Associations all across the great State of Texas will host events in honor of their members, co-workers, peers, teachers and friends.

The State Bar of Texas created The Paralegal Division of The State Bar of Texas on October 23, 1981, becoming the first U.S. bar association to create a separate division for paralegals. In honor of the many contributions made by the paralegal community and the Paralegal Division, the Senate of the State of Texas declared October 23rd as Texas Legal Assistants Day on April 5, 1993 in Concurrent Resolution No. 69.

As the term “paralegal” became the preferred term, the Legal Assistants Division of the State Bar of Texas became the Paralegal Division.  It was in April of 2005 that the Texas House of Representatives recognized the name change, and proclaimed October 23rd to be Texas Paralegal Day.  This proclamation had to be renewed every two years during each Texas legislative session however.  Therefore, in April of 2009, the Texas Senate adopted Proclamation No. 1144, recognizing October 23rd as Texas Paralegal Day indefinitely.

You can see a copy of the 2009 Senate Proclamation by following the link: http://bit.ly/P5fS1M
