From District 7:  The Snack Pak:

Paralegal Division members worked hard at Snack Pak 4 Kids in the Texas Panhandle on April 2, 2013, packing over 3,800 bags for children that would otherwise go hungry on the weekends.

From District 5: The Blanket Brigade:

“Every child has a dream of what he wants to be when he grows up. Unfortunately, not every child gets a fair chance at acquiring that dream.”  The Children’s Shelter of San Antonio gives children that chance. They also give them the things that every child deserves: to grow up in a loving environment, eat three meals a day, receive proper health care, wear clean clothes, get an education… and not be abused.

Since 1901, The Children’s Shelter has been giving children the chance to dream. With emergency shelter services, residential treatment, basic and therapeutic foster care, special needs adoption, teen parenting services, and abuse prevention programs, the shelter helps create brighter futures for children every day.  Blanket Brigade photo 2The usual daily census of the shelter is between 48 and 52 children, ranging from infants to adolescents.  Some stay for a brief time, others for an extended time.  Sometimes siblings are placed together; sometimes a child is all alone.  However, every child who crosses the threshold of the shelter experiences the apprehension and fear of not knowing what may happen to them.Blanket Brigade photo.

For any of you who have children, it is likely that there was a special blanket or other transitional object that was critical for your child’s sense of security.  For those of you without children, you may have had a treasured blanket that was a source of comfort for you.

District 5 of the Paralegal Division is sponsoring an ongoing project to provide a fleece blanket for every child who arrives at the shelter.  We will be meeting once a month to make these blankets after work, with fabric that will be either underwritten or donated.  You do not have to have any sewing skills to make these blankets; you just need two hands and a heart open to the possibility of bringing comfort to a child.

From District 2:  Night at the Museum

District 2 members were treated a a Member Appreciate night exploring the new Perot Museum in Dallas.
