In Dallas, District 2 joined with the Dallas Area Paralegal Association, the North Texas Paralegal Association and the J.L. Turner Association Paralegal Section to host their 12th Annual Texas Paralegal Day joint celebration at the Belo Mansion in Dallas.  This year’s theme was “Flying High in Your Profession” with Gary Kennedy, former general counsel for American Airlines.  Mr. Kennedy spoke on attributes that he looks for in paralegals and what he seeks in a successful legal team member. Michele Boerder read the Texas Senate Proclamation No. 1144, declaring every October 23rd Texas Paralegal Day.

District 3 had its Paralegal Day Luncheon on October 15th! It was held at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in Fort Worth. Reservations filled up within three days! The moderator was Tarrant County Bar Association President, Mike Henry, Esq. Mr. Henry read Proclamation No. 1144. The speaker was Bill Bowers, Esq. He gave a very insightful presentation on “Tips for Being an Ethical Paralegal.” Both were very complimentary of each other, the paralegal profession, and the program. There were door prizes and wonderful goodie bags. A big thank you to our sponsors, iDocket, Kim Tindall & Associates, and dessert sponsor, Thomson Reuters. Also, a big thank you to District 3 team leaders for all of their efforts!

District 5 joined the two local organizations, Alamo Area Paralegal Association and South Texas Organization of Paralegals, to put on the 11th Annual San Antonio Paralegal Day Celebration.  The president-elect of the State Bar, Allen DuBois, was our keynote and, in keeping with our theme, The Winds of Change, gave a great presentation about the evolution in the practice of law, and then discussed some of the initiatives he intends to pursue when he steps into office next May.

Due to the success of the event over the years, we were able to donate $1800 to the San Antonio Bar Association, Community Justice Program, which is the largest local pro bono program in the area.

Last, but not least, Sharon Vetters was awarded Paralegal of the Year.  Her attorney wrote a lovely letter of recommendation about the nature of their practice, spanning 30+ years.  It was a great day for District 5, and I wish all other paralegals a Happy Paralegal Day – today, tomorrow, and every day!
