SAT, April 16, 2016 (Florence) – Arrive in Florence, meet your ACIS Tour Manager at the airport and check into your hotel. After a free afternoon, wind down at a relaxing welcome reception and dinner. (B,D)

SUN, April 17, 2016 (Florence) – Today’s sightseeing tour with a local guide and headsets shows you the splendid Duomo, Ghiberti’s famous Baptistry Doors, Santa Croce and the Piazza della Signoria, the political center of the Renaissance city. Also, enjoy a timed entrance to the Accademia to see Michelangelo’s David. During the afternoon perhaps learn about Florence’s merchant history with a stroll across the Ponte Vecchio. (B)

MON, April 18, 2016 (Florence) – Today there is an excursion to Siena. Drive to Siena, where you visit the Duomo and the Piazza del Campo and enjoy a tasting and lunch. Today’s flavors are huge and hearty, as you might expect. Tastings and discussions delve into breads, oils, cured meats, wild mushrooms, cheeses and Siena’s own Panforte. Lunch at a local Trattoria complements the morning’s talk and samplings. After lunch, stroll through Siena on your own before returning to Florence for the overnight. (B,L)

TUE, April 19, 2016 (Florence) -Today enjoy a full-day excursion exploring regional specialties in a trio of towns. Wine and Montepulciano have been linked since 789; the varietal was then sought after by English royalty in 1669. Today’s tasting features Vino Nobile, a “noble” red wine blend. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pienza isn’t just a Renaissance mecca; it’s also renowned for its Pecorino di Pienza. The sheep’s milk cheese is often aged for up to a year and is considered the primo Pecorino. In Montalcino, climb the ramparts for a view down from the medieval fortress before perusing the bottles of one of Italy’s prized and most expensive red wines: Brunello di Montalcino. Continue just outside Montalcino to the Abbey of Sant’ Antimo and surrender your ears to the magnificent Gregorian Chants. Please note: lunch at a local trattoria is included today. (B,L)

WED, April 20, 2016 (Florence) -This morning depart for Assisi to see the stone cell where St. Francis of Assisi lived and founded the Franciscan order of Friars. In the Basilica of St. Francis, located above his tomb, you will see beautiful frescoes by Giotto and Cimabue. Enjoy free exploration time and lunch before returning to Florence. (B,L)

THU, April 21, 2016 (Florence) -This morning visit Lucca, a former Roman colony famous for its full intact city walls and enjoy lunch on your own. Then continue to Pisa with entrance to the ornate Cathedral of Pisa, part of a complex of buildings located on the Piazza dei Miracoli accompanying the iconic Leaning Tower, the cathedral’s bell tower. FRI, April 22, 2016 (Florence) – Today is a day of free exploration time for you to spend in Florence. Perhaps visit the Uffizi, the Bargello, or the Medici Chapel to see the famous Florentine tombs. Allow some time to shop Florence’s artistic tradition is today expressed in gold and leather. Tonight, enjoy a special farewell dinner. (B,D)

The Paralegal Division has finalized its plans for the 2014 Trip to Europe to Vienna & Prague from April 18 – 26, 2014.   The deadline to register is October 31, 2013 (travelers must be 18 years of age or over).  This is a really great trip; 28 persons have already registered to travel with the Paralegal Division.

Ole! The PD is going to Spain

The Paralegal Division will travel to Spain in 2010 for Eight Days and Seven Nights.  The group will depart on Friday, April 23 and return on Saturday, May 1.

 

Friday, Apr 23, 2010: Overnight Flight Depart for Europe.Saturday, Apr 24, 2010: Seville Upon arrival in Seville, meet your Tour Manager and transfer to the hotel. An orientation walking tour will help determine which aspects of Spain’s famed city interest you most. Relax at this evening’s welcome reception and dinner. 

Sunday, Apr 25, 2010: Seville This morning, you will visit the bullring with your Tour Manager. In the afternoon, delve into Seville and its mélange of cultural influences on this morning’s guided sightseeing tour. Stops include the Gothic Cathedral – one of the world’s largest – and the Alcázar, a Moorish fortress that was converted into a Christian palace. Also included is a walk through Santa Cruz. The rest of the day is free to do as you wish. Dinner is not included on this evening. 

Monday, Apr 26, 2010: Seville Enjoy a full day excursion to Granada and the Alhambra Palace one of the most beautiful architectural marvels in the world. Granada is home to two of Spain’s most famous Unesco World Heritage Sites: the gardens of the Generalife and the exquisite Moorish architecture of the Alhambra Palace. In Granada, a guided walking tour of Spain’s most stunning monument of Moorish culture, the breathtakingly beautiful Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens, framed by the stunning backdrop of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. You will have some free time to explore Granada at your leisure and have lunch on your own before return trip to Seville.  

Tuesday, Apr 27, 2010: Seville Today, you enjoy Seville at your own pace. You’re free to wander the town for a second look at its many sights, explore a museum, or just relax at a café, finishing up those last few postcards. Dinner is not included on this evening. 

Wednesday, Apr 28, 2010: Seville For further immersion into the region’s history and culture, travel to Córdoba on a full-day excursion. The guided tour includes entrance to the Mezquita, a one-time mosque and now cathedral that the Romans, the Moors and the Christians all had a hand in building, or rebuilding. Other Córdoba highlights include: Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos (the hub of the Inquisition), the Roman Bridge, and the Judería, Córdoba’s picturesque, medieval district, once home to its Jewish community. Lunch is provided in Córdoba prior to your return to Seville.  Thursday, Apr 29, 2010: Seville History buffs with a penchant for explorers should embark on today’s full-day excursion to Cádiz and Jerez. Coastal Cádiz lays claim to Ferdinand Magellan and Amerigo Vespucci, for whom our part of the world is named. How did British merchants pronounce Jerez? Sherry. The town produces much of the world’s finest aperitif, while also boasting a Moorish heritage, and many, many bodegas. A guided tour will explore this style of wine cellar, followed by a vino tasting and an included tapas tasting. Return to Seville for a leisurely evening. 

Friday, Apr 30, 2010: Seville Celebrate modern España and its marvels on this morning’s tour of the Universal Exhibition, or World’s Fair, site where the global populace descended in 1992 to admire Spain’s culture and ingenuity. Return to the city center for lunch. Tapas are now served worldwide, but what better way to try these tasty bites than in the nation of their birth? As the world’s third largest wine producer, Spain boasts many fine varietals. Sample some and learn more about Spanish styles and bouquets at this afternoon’s tasting and talk. Join your traveling companions for a farewell dinner this evening.

PD Group Returns from Greece

PD travel group just returned from Greece on May 2; fantastic time had by everyone; visited Nauplion (Rhonda, Patti, Linda and Bobby climbed the 999 steps to the Fortress of Palamidi), Mycenae, Epidaurus, Corinth, Athens, and Delphi; viewed the Parthenon, the Temple dedicated to Greek Goddess Athena, the Temple of Zeus, the Ancient Angora, Plaka area in Athens, amphitheatre at Epidaurus; sacred temples and stadium field at Delphi, took a day cruise to three islands, and oh so much more.  For full article on our travels, see Fall 2009 TPJ.  Stay tuned for 2010 PD trip to be announced in June.

PD Travels to Greece

788suitcase1Bon voyage!  This week, several members of the PD, their friends and family are traveling on the PD’s Annual Trip. This year the group travels to Greece. Highlights of the trip will include visits  Nauplia, Mycenae, Corinth, Athens and Delphi.
